Queen’s Park Book Festival 2019

We were proud to be a festival partner for the 2019 Queen’s Park Book Festival, an annual celebration of literature in the heart of our local community.

Our first event was with the award-winning novelist and author of ‘The Ungrateful Refugee’ Dina Nayeri, in conversation with barrister, author and acclaimed journalist Jennifer Nadel. The discussion focused on Dina’s work and her own experience as a refugee.

Our second event was a comedy show called ‘No Direction Home’,

Refugee Week 2019

Refugee Week 2019 (17-23 June) – Theme: “You, Me and Those Who Came Before”

2019 was a big year: the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of WW2 and the consequent ‘refugee crisis’ in continental Europe and the 20th anniversary of Salusbury World opening its doors, at the time of a previous iteration of a ‘refugee crisis’ in Europe.  

To commemorate Refugee Week, we organised a film screening with our friends at the Lexi Cinema on World Refugee Day (20th June).

Queen's Park Book Festival

The Queen’s Park book festival was an event in which Salusbury World was a festival partner on June 29th and 30th of 2019.  The event was opened by renowned actor Jason Isaacs.  For the Salusbury World event, 4 comedians were given the opportunity to perform stand-up acts.   The No Direction Home stand-up program has been run by Counterpoints Arts and award-winning Tom Parry to show a unique new course for refugees and migrants.
