We work with refugee and migrant families helping children, young people and parents to realise their rights and potential. Our work is effective because our services are joined up to provide integrated educational, social and practical support.
Vision
Asylum from conflict and persecution is a universal human right. So are education, family life, adequate living standards and social participation. All children have rights to play and recreation, as well as the active promotion of their full growth and development.
We envisage a future in which schools and communities across the UK work together to protect, fulfil and foster respect for these rights, ensuring that all migrants are welcomed wholeheartedly and empowered to settle, thrive and participate in all areas of society.

Our History
Salusbury World was founded in 1999 when the then headteacher of Salusbury Primary School realised that extra support was urgently needed for the many refugee children arriving in the area from the Balkan conflict. With funding from a lottery grant, we began to provide vital support for the children and their families, many of whom had experienced trauma, long journeys to the UK, and found themselves living in poor-quality temporary accommodation.

Our Team
Sarah Reynolds
Director
Sarah trained as a primary teacher and worked in inner London schools before a stint in Chile where she set up and ran an education consultancy. She also enjoys having opinions on almost anything, but particularly cycling, the environment and human rights.
Dan Judelson
Project Manager, Harris Lowe Academy Willesden
Before joining Salusbury World, Dan worked extensively in politics, including as a parliamentary researcher to one MP and as a constituency organiser for another. His experience in education includes volunteering at primary school level and working as a Salusbury World mentor with both child and adult refugees. In October 2015 and again in 2016 he organised an aid run to Calais and other refugee camps in the surrounding area.
Alexa Rice
Family Advice Worker
Alexa is a family advice worker with an 18 year background in education, both in management and in teaching. Throughout her career, she has worked with refugees in a variety of projects and roles. She dances, travels and takes a few photos when inspired.
Aynur Erdogan
Project Manager, Women's Project
Aynur has over 20 years experience in working with refugee families. She is a professionally qualified ESOL teacher and passionate about empowering refugees through access to English. Her interests include reading and travelling.

Our Trustees
Gillian Self
Chair of Trustees
Gillian is a teacher at Salusbury Primary School. Previously she worked for a small start-up business helping it to grow into a successful training and conference business. Gillian particularly enjoyed working with young people on a British Council Global Changemaker project, bringing together young social entrepreneurs from around the globe.
As a Trustee Gillian brings her expertise in helping small organisations to grow as well as being a conduit to the teaching community which surrounds Salusbury World.
Gillian’s diverse interests are as diverse as her career including swimming, basketball, film & theatre.
David Kaye
Trustee
David has been a Trustee and actively involved with Salusbury World since its inception in 1999. His knowledge of the charity’s growth and development brings an invaluable perspective to the board of Trustees.
David is a consultant and teacher of numeracy to adults. He has significant experience of working with adults from diverse groups and of the voluntary sector, and he is currently Chair of the charity Adults Learning Mathematics.
David has lived in Kilburn all his life where he is a committed community and political activist, but finds time to travel the country with his partner Doris to enjoy folk music festivals.
Holta Loku
Trustee
Holta was one of the first children to benefit from the support of Salusbury World when the charity opened in 1999. With the help of the charity, she was able to learn English and swiftly settle in England. Since then, she has gone on to graduate in Law from the University of Sussex and has forged a successful career as a legal headhunter.
Holta’s contribution based on her first hand experience is extremely useful in advising the future direction of the charity’s services.
Outside of work and the charity Holta’s other interests include theatre, art and boxing.
Viviana Young
Trustee
Viviana is a Class Teacher at Salusbury Primary School, where she is also a teaching mentor and the English lead. Viviana first became more involved in refugee interests during her second year of teaching, when, with her class, she won the Simple Acts Banner Competition in 2010.
As a Trustee, Viviana sees her role as linking Salusbury World’s activities to the benefit of all within her school, and maintaining the profile of refugee issues within the community.
Viviana’s interests include medieval English poetry, fell walking and cooking.
